Extra-judicial killings: Bar Council to place issue to int’l platform: Mahbub

A total of 668 incidents of extra-judicial killing have taken place in the country since 2009, Bar Council Vice-Chairman Khandaker Mahbub Hossain claimed on Sunday. He urged the government to investigate the incidents through formation of a high-power judicial probe body headed by a Supreme Court Judge.Hossain, also the adviser of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, came up with the plea while addressing a press conference at the Bar Council Auditorium this afternoon.Citing different newspapers reports Khandaker Mahbub said 229 people were killed in 2009, 133 in 2010, 100 in 2011, 91 in 2012, 71 in 2013 and 44 killed from January 1 to February 10 this year.He also urged the government to form the committee with the representatives from Bangladesh Bar Council, Jatiya Press Club and human rights organisations and made its report public within a very short time.”If the government does not form the probe body, Bangladesh Bar Council will place the issue before the international platform,” Hossain threatened.He claimed that the extra-judicial killing, forced disappearance and torture on general public have become alarming in the country before January 5 election but the government have been playing a silent role about the anti-human rights activities in order to root out the opposition political parties.Hossain further claimed that the ruling party criminals are making attacks on the opposition minded general students at dormitories of different universities in presence of law enforcers.
