Man on remand: Banned militants` involvement in Helali attack

Joynal Abedin Khan :Mujahidul Islam, who had been arrested in connection with stabbing President of Bangladesh Awami Ulema League (BAUL) Ilias Hossain-Bin-Helali, was placed on a four-day remand on Saturday.Metropolitan Magistrate M Tasruzzaman passed theorder after police produced him in the court with 10-day remand prayers.Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner Md Anwar Hossain told The New Nation on Saturday, “There is a possibility that Mujahidul is involved with a militant group.””We are to find out whether he is a militant,” the police official said.The clue of the attack will be clear after arrest of other miscreants in this connection, he said. Unknown assailants on Friday stabbed the 50-year old Helali at the south gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Jumma prayers.Ulama League activists said that Helali was going to the Bangabandhu Avenue to attend a program on the anniversary of Aug 21, 2004 grenade attack.
