Banking confce with a motto to realize national agenda

A two-day long Banking Conference 2015 began on Sunday with a new motto to support attaining the national agenda on macroeconomic stability and sustainable growth.
Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) organized the conference at its auditorium in the city. Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman inaugurated it as the chief guest.
Addressing the conference Dr. Atiur Rahman underscored the need for effectively regulating the financial sector to ensure financial stability.
“Macro financial stability is a must to implement the national agenda of the country,” he said and called upon the banks to establish good governance to ensure macro financial stability.
The governor said, “Financial institutions must be transparent to make a vibrant private sector. Banks must strengthen their supervision and risk management to establish good governance.”
He suggested banks to finance more credit in the productive, micro and SME sectors to develop the rural economy. “Such initiatives would help reduce economic disparity and inequality from the society,” he said.
 He also asked banks to invest more in green projects across the country to get ready for future climate challenges.
Dr. Atiur Rahman laid stress on the development of women entrepreneurs to ensure a vibrant economy. “We plan to include more women entrepreneurs in financial inclusion.” He suggested banks to disburse their idle fund in small and medium sector.
Meanwhile, the governor also inaugurated the BIBM-Frankfurt School of Finance and Management Joint Certification Programme on Certified Expert in Risk Management (CERM).
He also outlined the financial inclusion campaign pursued by the central bank to bring in the unsaved and under-served segments of the population into the banking network to ensure mass participation in the government’s development process.
Andreas Emser, Director of Executive Education, Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany delivered his speech on “skype.” He said that this joint certification Programme will create a milestone between Bangladesh and German banking sectors by enhancing the risk management skills of the banking professionals.
Dr. Toufic Ahmad Choudhury, Director General of BIBM presided over the inaugural session and presented the research paper titled “A Review of the Banking Activities-2014.”
There have been four sessions in the conference. Each session has one session chair and four panelists. 12 keynote papers were presented in the first day and 14 keynote papers will be presented today (Monday). There have been some foreign paper presenters also who have come from Nepal, Malaysia and India.
