Bank to remain open on July 11

Bangladesh Bank has ordered all private banks to remain open their branches on July 11 (Saturday) with a view to providing wages and salaries of the garment workers.
The central bank sent a circular in this regard to the banks’ chief executives on Thursday.
According to the BB order, the foreign exchange branches, branches located at the Export Processing Zone, land and sea ports, and at Customs Houses cities will also remain open on Friday as well as Saturday.
But the Authorised Dealer (AD) of the country has asked to open their branches only on Saturday, said the BB circular.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and
Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) appealed to the BB to open all branches of the state-owned and private commercial banks on Saturday for the convenience of export trade and workers’ payments.
The central bank asked the banks of Dhaka, Gazipur, Ashulia, Savar, Tongi, Narayangang and Chittagong areas to open their branches under strict security.
It also directed banks to pay one day salary for their officers who will work on Saturday.
