A woman was hacked to death reportedly by her former husband Robin in a broad daylight in the city’s Central Road area on Thursday morning.
The deceased identified as Ariful Nesa Arifa was an employee of the Jamuna Bank, Purana Paltan Branch, police said.
Quoting the relatives, Bachchu Mia, In-Charge of DMCH Police Outpost said that Arifa was attacked with a sharp weapon by Robin in front of her residence near the Ideal College, Dhanmandi at about 8:30 am when she was going to office.
She was rushed to nearby Central Hospital in a critical condition and later moved to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where she succumbed to her injuries at about 11:45am, the police official said.
There were deep gashes in the head, the hands and the neck of the victim, the SI said.
“Both Arifa and Robin hailed from Jamalpur and got married four years ago. But the conjugal life ended six months ago. Since then, she lived on the Central Road with her mother. Nonetheless, after giving repeated threats to life, Robin finally attacked her as soon as she came out of the house,” he said.
The body has been sent to the DMCH for an autopsy, the SI said. A murder case was filed with the Police station in this connection.
