Experts at a divisional level orientation workshop said the laudable success achieved by Bangladesh in eliminating malnutrition of the population, especially children and women, has earned global admiration.
Bangladesh National Nutrition Council and Rangpur Divisional Directorate of Health organised the workshop on ‘Second National Nutrition Plan’ at conference room of the Civil Surgeon in Rangpur on Thursday.
The Civil Society Alliance for Scaling Up Nutrition (CSA for SUN) and World Food Programme (WFP) extended assistance in arranging the workshop.
The workshop was arranged to guide the government and development partners to adapt their programmes to improve nutritional status of the people, specially women and children, through proper implementation of the 2nd National Plan of Action on Nutrition.
Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Abdul Karim attended the workshop as the chief guest with Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Mostafizur Rahman in the chair.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Minu Shill inaugurated the workshop.
Director of the Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN) and Line Director of the National Nutrition Services (NNS) Dr Samir Kanti Sarker attended the workshop as special guest.
Civil Surgeon of Kurigram Dr Aminul Islam delivered welcome speech in theworkshop also addressed by Director of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital Dr Ajay Kumar Roy.
Assistant Directors of Bangladesh National Nutrition Council Dr Akhter Imam, Dr Nazmus Salehin, Tonima Sharmin and Dr Fatema Akhter delivered presentations on the progress achieved in the nutrition sector and current nutrition situation in the country.
The chief guest stressed on sincere efforts of all stakeholders for proper
implementation of the 2nd National Plan of Action on Nutrition to eliminate
malnutrition of the people of all ages on the way to achieve the sustainable
development goals.
The speakers said the nutritional status of all citizens could be improved
further through proper implementation of the plan of action on nutrition to
reduce malnutrition of the people with a focus on babies, children,
adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
