Staff Reporter :Malaysian police on Thursday detained 107 foreign nationals including Bangladeshis for working without valid documents in Penang state.The state Immigration Department picked them up from the construction site near Jalan Chain Ferry during the ‘Ops Bersepadu’, Malaysian based English daily The Star reported on Friday.The report said that 85 Civil Defence Department officers and RELA members surrounded the seven-storey building before moving in.State Immigration Assistant Director Abdul Rahman Hassan said that 467 workers from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan were screened during the operation at 11am on Thursday.”We checked floor to floor, as the workers were living in makeshift quarters on the seventh floor. We had difficulties to check, as steel bars blocked the entrance.”We found 14 foreigners hiding there,” he said. “Of the 107 detainees, 97 were males and seven females aged between 20 and 40, and three children aged between five and seven,” he said.They were taken to the Seberang Jaya headquarters for documentation and afterward sent to the Immigration detention camp in Juru.
