Business Report :
Young entrepreneur Mottakin Salam has become the top scorer in an international competition on ‘Heavy lifting and exceptional transportation’ organised by ‘Break Bulk Asia’.
Mottakin has achieved the rare feat of scoring 100 per cent marks in the competition.
Over 50 participants from different Asian countries took part in the competition held in India recently.
Heavy lifting and exceptional transport contributes to 15 per cent of construction and erection of any big project including power plants, heavy industries and giant bridges.
Mottakin is the deputy managing director of Bengal Electric, one of the pioneers in heavy lift and exceptional transport sector in the country.
“In the past lifting and shifting of big machinery like a turbine of power plant, was done manually involving huge man-hours but now modern machineries like giant cranes, skidding device and special transporters are used to do the job,” said Mottakin.
Graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering, a top-ranking university in the USA in the year 2009, Mottakin is the only son of Abdus Salam, founder and managing director of Bengal Electric.
Currently Mottakin is working in constructing a mega floating crane with a capacity of 1000 ton, the largest in the country.
“It will bring a new era in heavy lift for loading and unloading of extra- heavy and ODC cargoes for Break Bulk ship with no derrick facility, power plants, refineries and salvage of sunken vessels,” he said.
