Italy wants to recruit about 70,000 foreign workers from Bangladesh and other countries of the world, sources said.
“Italy has declared that it will take about 70,000 foreign workers from Bangladesh and other countries. Our mission there should help us with details about the categories of the manpower the country wants to hire,” Shameem Ahmed Chowdhury Noman, former Secretary General of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA), told The New Nation on Wednesday.
He said, our mission in Rome should collect the gazette notification issued by the country last Monday.
If we get the details quickly, then we can sort out the eligible manpower they are keen to hire from our country.
The BAIRA leader said, the ministry of the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment should take help from the mission there and let us know about the categories in details. After knowing workers of which trades and professions the country will hire, the expatriates’ ministry has to inform us through the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), so that we can proceed accordingly, he said.
When contacted, Md. Shahidul Alam, Director General of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) told The New Nation on Wednesday, “Doors are opening gradually in Europe for our manpower. Several European countries are keen to hire our manpower. Italy is one of them.”
He said, “We are trying to collect the details through our mission working in Italy about their latest circulation.”
“In the meantime, the people keen to go there should not give money without investigation,” the DG warned.
Sources said, the Italy government issued a gazette notification on Monday saying that it would hire a total of 69,700 foreign workers where Bangladesh has chance.
It said that the country would hire two categories of workers, one is on permanent basis (non-seasonal), the other is seasonal. The permanent workers would get stay and work permits for two years.
On the other hand, the seasonal workers have to get nine months stay and work permits. The foreign workers keen to go to the country can apply in separate categories.
Applications from non-seasonal workers would take from January 27. Besides, seasonal workers can submit their applications from February1.
Workers of both the categories can submit their applications till March17, sources said.
Advocate Anisuzzaman Anis, an advocate working for giving legal assistances to the migrant workers said, there are narrow scopes for Bangladeshi workers to get non-seasonal work permits as businessmen of most of the sectors have no well connectivity with Bangladeshis working in the country.
He said, the workers trying to get seasonal working visa may get those easy as there are huge opportunity in those sectors including agro farms.
