Bangladeshi shot dead in S Africa

Staff Reporter :A Bangladeshi national was shot dead in South Africa by some extortionists of that country. He was killed in Cape Town city, the second-most populous city in South Africa after Johannesburg. The deceased was identified as Mujibur Rahman, 27, son of Mohammad Shamsuddin from Bhalukmara village of 1 No Laxmi Prashad Union under Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet. Confirming the incident, the victim’s elder brother Mashuk Ahmed said that Mujibur went to South Africa about two years ago. He used to run a crockery shop in the Cape Town city.He also said that a gang of armed extortionists stormed into his shop at about 11:00 pm on Monday (Johannesburg time) and demanded toll from him. They also started looting the shop. At one stage, the extortionists opened fire on Mujibur indiscriminately leaving him dead on the spot, he added. The body of the Mujibur was brought to Dhaka on Friday. Mashuk Ahmed received the body at the Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport in the evening. Later, the body of Mujibur Rahman was sent to his village home where he will be buried today (Saturday) after Namaz-e-Janaza. A pale of gloom descended in the village of Mujibur Rahman upon receiving his death news.
