ICC WWC Qualifier: Bangladesh Women’s team thrash PNG

Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team thrashed Papua New Guinea (PNG) National Women’s Cricket team by 118 runs in the ICC Women’s World Cup (WWC) Cricket Qualifier at Colombo Cricket Club Ground on Tuesday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh made a fighting total of 215 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then bundled out PNG for just 97 off 32.1 overs.
Bangladesh made an unhappy start as they lost their opener Sharmin Sultana for just naught when Bangladesh’s total was 1.
Then Sharmin Akhter and Sanjida Islam repaired the damage contributing together 51 runs for the second wicket stand before Sanjida Islam was trapped leg before wicket by S Jimmy when Bangladesh’s score was 52 for the loss of two wickets.
Sharmin Akhter hit a superb 56. Her 86-ball innings was studded with seven fours.
Fargana Hoque notched up a brilliant 51. Her 72-ball knock was laced with seven fours.
After dismissal of Sanjida Islam, Sharmin Akhter and Fargana Hoque added together 69 runs for the third wicket partnership before Sharmin Akter was caught by P Siaka off R Oa when the tigresses’ total was 121 for the loss of three wickets.
Later, Salma Khatun and Shaila Sharmin put on together 55 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket partnership.
Salma Khatun remained unbeaten with 32. Her 31-ball innings was ornamented with four fours.
Earlier, Sanjida Islam made 28 from 47 balls featuring four fours.
Shaila Sharmin remained unbeaten with 20.
R Oa, S Jimmy, M Tom of PNG got two wickets each conceding 23, 32 and 35 runs respectively.
Later, P Siaka and K Oala were the two notable cricketer, who resisted against the tight and controlled bowling attack of Bangladesh.
P Siaka hit a captain’s knock of 32. Her 41-ball innings was decorated with four fours.
K Oala made 29 off 38 balls including two fours and two sixes.
Rumana Ahmed, Salma Khatun, Panna Ghosh, Jahanara Alam bagged a couple of wickets each for 13, 14, 20, 27 runs respectively.
Besides, Khadija Tul Kubra took one wicket at the cost of 17 runs.
