Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team left the city on Thursday for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take part in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team will begin their coaching camp at the UAE from September 9 to September 12. The cricketers went to the UAE on September 8 to adapt with the conditions of UAE.
A total of eight teams splitting into two groups will take part in the Qualifiers. Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, the United States of America (USA) are in Group-A, while Thailand, Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea, the UAE are in Group-B. Bangladesh will take on Ireland on September 18, Bangladesh will play against Scotland on September 19, Bangladesh will face the USA on September 21.
Two finalists of the qualifiers will get tickets of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in South Africa in 2023.
Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team emerged the champions in the ICC Women’s T20 Qualifiers in 2016, finished runners-up in the Qualifiers in 2018, became champions in the Qualifiers in 2020. But Bangladesh Women’s Cricket got only one win in the final round. They beat Sri Lanka by three runs.
Captain of Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team Nigar Sultana said, ” Our first target is to qualify for the final round. We want to be champions in the final round. If our total teams perform well and our batters do their job properly and our bowlers bowl well, we will qualify for the final round.”
Sultana said, ” Our teammates are playing as a team for a long time. We know our ability. We are confident. Our unity has made us confident.”
She said, ” We never ever played in the UAE. The conditions of the UAE is not same to the conditions of our country. So, we are going to the UAE as soon as possible. I hope the coaching camp will help us.”
