Bangladesh win five gold in ISSF Archery

As expected Bangladesh Archers lived up the top billing as they ended the ISSF International Solidarity Archery Championships by winning five gold medals in nine events at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.
Bangladesh archers won gold at four out of the five compound events but managed just one gold medal at the recurve events where they were competing for four out of five golds. The hosts only gold in recurve event came as recurve men’s team beat Nepal 5-1.
In an all-Bangladesh final, Kumar Das defeated compatriot Abul Kashem Mamun 140-134 to win gold in the compound men’s event.
Female archer Rokhsana Akhter won gold in the compound women’ event beating her Iraq’s rival Fatimah Almashhadani 136-133.
Bangladesh also won gold in the men and women’s team event beating Iraq 225-205 and Morocco 216-152 respectively. The only compound event where they missed out on gold was the mixed event where they were beaten 146-143 by Iraq.
However top ranked Bangladesh Archer Ruman Sana disappointed the partisan crowd as was beaten by KSA’s Abdalelah Binali in the recurve men’s final by 7-1 sets.
Earlier, in the the first ISSF Championship Bangladesh secured six gold, one silver and two bronze gold medals but this time they had to remain satisfied with five gold, five silver and bronze.
D Deputy Minister on Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy MP was the chief guest on the closing day of the championship and distributed the prizes. Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) president lieutenant General M Moinul Islam, BAF general secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, BAF officials and ISSF officials were also present on the occasion.
Participating countries in three day tourney were Azerbaijan, Chad, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Nepal, Morocco, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Uganda, Mauritania, Djibouti, Pakistan, Estonia and host Bangladesh.
