BSS, Dhaka :
Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed an air service agreement to strengthen and expand aviation relations between the two countries.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon and UAE Economy Minister and Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides at the Civil Aviation Authority office in Dubai, the UAE on Monday, according to a message received here today.
Through the signing of the agreement, Bangladesh Biman Airlines and UAE-based Airlines will enjoy an increased frequency and route facilities.
Earlier, at a high-level meeting, Minister Menon said there is huge opportunity to expand ties with the UAE in trade, investment, tourism and other areas.
The Bangladesh Minister said the opportunity of expanding relations between the two nations is being hampered due to visa restriction of the UAE government to the Bangladeshi nationals.
Menon urged the UAE government to withdraw their visa restriction for Bangladeshi nationals in entering the UAE considering Bangladesh as a part of Muslim Ummah.
Mentioning that Bangladesh has a pool of trained flight crews, flight engineers, aircraft engineers and cabin crews, the Bangladesh minister urged the UAE based airlines to recruit them.
The UAE authority hoped that all pending matters including visa issue will be resolved through discussion during the upcoming visit of Bangladesh foreign minister to the UAE in December.
The Bangladesh delegation was also comprised with Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary SM Golam Farook, Bangladesh Ambassador to the UAE M Imran and Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air-Vice Marshal M Naim Hasan.
