Two centuries by CT Hawkings and HJ Visavadiya forced Bangladesh team to concede their 2nd successive defeat against Otaga A team losing their last warm-up match of the Pre-Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2018 by 24 runs at the University of Otago Oval, Dunedin in New Zealand on Thursday.
The Young Tigers made a frustrating start in the New Zealand tour after conceding a six-wicket defeat against the same team on Wednesday ahead of the U-19 Cricket World Cup campaign beginning on January 13.
Bangladesh, which were placed in Group C of the Youth World Cup Cricket with Namibia, Canada and England, will play Namibia on January13, Canada on January 15 and England on January 18.
Sent in to bat first in the day’s match, the Otago A team piled up a comfortable total of 270 runs for 3 in stipulated 50 overs featuring centuries by Hawkings and Visavadiya.
After the departure of three top order batsmen — GW Croudis (5), HD Rutherford (3) and Tasman-Jones (15) — for 60 runs in 18.1 overs, one down CT Hawkins pairing number five HJ Visavadiya contributed an unbeaten 218 runs in the 4th wicket stand to carry the team to 278 runs from 60.
CT Hawking hammered unbeaten 137 runs off 135 balls featuring 17 fours and two sixes while HJ Vasavadiya contributed not out 112 runs off 101 balls hitting six fours and five sixes.
Hasan Mahmud grabbed two wickets for 37 runs while Nayem Hasan took the remaining wicket for 36 runs.
Chasing a fighting total, the Young Tigers fought hard for their existence but were all out for 254 runs in 49.1 overs.
Captain Saif Hasan, who scored team highest 54 runs in the previous match, also contributed the same score of 54 runs today. He furnished his 77-ball innings with seven fours and one six.
Number six batsman Aminul Islam also made half century scoring 52 runs off 57 balls with the help of seven boundaries.
Besides, Naim Sheikh (22), Qazi Onik (18) and Afif Hossain (14) were the other main contributors for Bangladesh.
JA Duffy claimed four wickets for 70 runs while HJ Visavadiya grabbed three for 35 while JS Hunter took two for 47 runs.
