State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the government is working with a target to earn $5.0 billion from IT sector by 2025.
“The country earnings from ICT sector reached $1.0 billion in 2019. The government is working with a target of earning five billion US dollar by 2025,” he said.
Palak said this on Thursday while addressing, as the chief guest, the 30th anniversary of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) at a city hotel.Mentioning that Bangladesh has made a tremendous advancement in ICT sector, he said Bangladesh is the second largest source of digital labourers in the world.
According to Oxford Internet Institute, 16 percent worldwide online workers are Bangladeshis, he added.
The state minister expressed his keen interest in implementing more joint projects with KOICA to enhance business opportunities for Bangladeshi companies. Palak invited South Korea as development partner of Bangladesh and trusted friend of Digital Bangladesh to take part in International Blockchain Olympiad in 2021. Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Dhaka Lee Jang-keun and KOICA Country Director Doh Young-Ah Korea addressed it with Bangladesh Alumni Association President Manjur Hossain in the chair.
Economics Relations Division Secretary Fatima Yasmin joined it virtually.
