Bangladesh to be fastest growing economy: Lawmakers

The treasury bench members on Wednesday hailed the proposed budget for the next fiscal year saying, Bangladesh would be the fastest growing economy in 2019 with speedy progress in all sectors leading to the fulfillment of Vision 2021 of the present government.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on June 2 tabled the Taka 340,605 crore national budget for 2016-17 FY setting the GDP growth target at 7.2 percent and delineating a set of programmes to transform the country into a role model of modern and welfare state by 2041.
Taking part in a general discussion, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said when Awami League is carrying forward the hopes and aspirations of the people to a targeted goal, BNP is trying to play the game of abduction and murder across the country.
She alleged that BNP is plotting a conspiracy to grab power by using the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. BNP is also trying to portray Bangladesh as a fanatic state and convince the Israel, which was abandoned by all Muslim states including Saudi Arab, to help the party grab power by ousting the constitutional government.
She urged to reduce the tax on savings scheme saying, there are many middle income family live their livelihood by the interest.
Bangladesh is now exporting foodgrains fulfilling the local requirements as government provides subsidy in the sector. But we do not need to use the full amount of subsidy as the price of fertilizer has been reduced in global market, she said.
Taking part in a general discussion on the proposed budget, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said Bangladesh received investment proposal of $ 11 billion due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s successful development mission.

Hanif proposed the Finance Minister to impose 25 percent income tax on foreign consultant, as they brought around $ 4 billion in the name of consultancy.
He described the government’s development over the last seven years as unprecedented, marking a milestone in the history of Bangladesh under the bold and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Such a tremendous development carried out continuously in all sectors that raised the living standard of all in Bangladesh has amazed the whole world, thus earning much appreciation for the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Hanif said.
