Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team registered a thumping seven-wicket win over Ireland National Women’s Cricket team in their Super Six match of the ICC Women’s World Cup (WWC) Qualifier at Colombo Cricket Club Ground in Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
Chasing Ireland Women’s total of 144 off 47.1 overs, Bangladesh Women coasted home making 145 for the loss of three wickets when they had 59 balls to spare.
Bangladesh made a good start as openers Sharmin Sultana and Sharmin Akhter contributed 40 runs in the opening stand before Sharmin Sultana was caught by O’ Reilly off GH Lewis.
Sharmin Akhter notched up a superb 52. Her 86-ball innings was studded with five fours.
After dismissal of Sharmin Sultana, one-down Sanjida Islam (2) was run out by IMHC Joyce when Bangladesh’s total was 53 for the loss of two wickets.
After departure of Sanjida Islam, Sharmin Akhter and Fargana Hoque produced together 53 runs for the third wicket partnership before Sharmin Akhter was caught by O’ Reilly off Metcalfe when the Tigresses’ score was 106 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Fargana Hoque and Rumana Ahmed put on together 39 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket stand to reach the winning spot.
Fargana Hoque remained unbeaten with 34. Her 57-ball innings was decorated with three fours.
Rumana Ahmed remained unbeaten with 24. Her 35-ball knock was ornamented with three fours.
Opener Sharmin Sultana made 22 from 50 balls featuring two fours.
GH Lewis and CJ Matcalfe took one wicket each conceding 31 and 33 runs respectively.
Earlier, CMA Shillington, L Delany and IMHC Joyce resisted the controlled and tight bowling attack of Bangladesh bowlers scoring 37, 37 and 24 runs respectively.
Jahanara Alam captured three wickets at the cost of 21 runs, while Panna Ghosh, Khadija Tul Kubra and Rumana Ahmed bagged a pair of wickets each for 16, 26 and 50 runs respectively.
Besides, Salma Khatun took one wicket instead of 29 runs.
Jahanara Alam was adjudged the Player of the Match.
