Bangladesh take upper hand against Pakistan

A seven-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam powered Bangladesh to dismiss Pakistan for 286 in the first innings on the day 3 of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday. Taijul bowled really well and completed his spell as 44.4-9-116-7.
Deciding to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 330 runs in the first innings on the second day (Saturday).
Later, Bangladesh were at the stumps at 39/4.
Bangladesh have now overall 83-run lead.
Pakistan resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 145 for the loss of none.
Openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 93 and 52 runs respectively.
Abdullah Shafique failed to add any run in his account on the third day as he was trapped leg before wicket by Taijul Islam when Pakistan’s score was 146.
Taijul Islam struck again as one-down Azhar Ali (0) was trapped leg before wicket by left-arm spinner when the visitors’ total was 146 for the loss of two wickets.
After Azhar Ali’s dismissal, second-down Babar Azam (10) was bowled out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the tourists’ score was 169 for the loss of three wickets.
Third-down Fawad Alam (8) was caught behind by Liton Das off Taijul Islam when the touring side’s score was 182 for the loss of four wickets.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan (5) was trapped leg before wicket by pacer Ebadot Hossain when the visitors’ total was 207 for the loss of five wickets.
After Rizwan’s dismissal, Abid Ali was trapped leg before wicket by Taijul Islam when Pakistan’s score was 217 for the loss of six wickets. Abid Ali knocked a painstaking 133. His 282-ball innings was studded with 12 fours and two sixes.
After Abid Ali’s departure, Hasan Ali (12) was stumped out by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Taijul Islam when Pakistan’s total was 229 for the loss of seven wickets.
Pacer Ebadot Hossain struck again as Sajid Khan (5) was bowled out by the pacer when the touring side’s score was 240 for the loss of eight wickets.
Taijul shone with the cherry again as Nauman Ali (8) was trapped leg before wicket by the left-arm pacer when the visitors’ total was 257 for the loss nine wickets.
Fifth-down Faheem Ashraf (38) was the last victim of Taijul Islam as Faheem was caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das and Pakistan’s innings was dismissed.
Ebadot bagged two wickets at the cost of 47 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket for 68 runs.
Later, Bangladesh faced disaster as they lost four wickets for 25 runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim was on 12, while Yasir Ali was on eight before the bails were drawn for the third day.
Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed three wickets in the space of six runs, while Hasan Ali took one wicket for 19 runs.
