Bangladesh take upper hand

Bangladesh took the upper hand declaring their second innings at 224 for the loss of six wickets against Zimbabwe on the fourth day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday.
Bangladesh declared their first innings making 522 for the loss of seven wickets on the second day (Monday).
In return, Zimbabwe scored 304 in their first innings on the third day (Tuesday).
Zimbabwe were at stumps76 for the loss of two wickets in their 2nd innings. Score so far: BD 522/7, 224/6; Zimbabwe 304, 76/2.
Bangladesh had overall 366 runs lead. The hosts now need eight wickets to win.
Bangladesh faced a disaster as they lost their early four wickets for 25 runs.
Openers Imrul Kayes and Liton Das were dismissed for three and six runs respectively.
Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim also failed in the second innings as they were out for one and seven runs respectively.
When Mushfiqur Rahim returned to the pavilion, Bangladesh’s score was 25 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Mahmudullah Riyad and Mohammad Mithun repaired the damage contributing together 118 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Mithun was caught behind by Regis Chakabva off Sikandar Raza when the team’s total was 143 for the loss of five wickets.
Mahmudullah remained unbeaten with 101. His 122-ball innings saw four fours and two sixes. It was Mahmudullah’s second Test century.
Mohammad Mithun hit a superb 67. His 110-ball innings had four fours and a sixer.
After Mithun’s dismissal, Ariful Haque came to the crease for a short period. Ariful, however, (5) was bowled out by Sean Williams when Bangladesh’s score was 151 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz had added together 73 runs in the unbroken seventh wicket stand before Bangladesh’s skipper Mahmudullah Riyad declared their second innings.
Miraz remained unbeaten with 27.
Kyle Jarvis and Donald Tiripano bagged a pair of wickets each instead of 27 and 31 runs respectively.
Besides, Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams took one wicket apiece.
Later, Zimbawe made a good start as Brian Chari and Hamilton Masakadza put on together 68 runs in the opening stand before Hamilton (25) was caught at the forward short by Mominul Haque off Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Then Brian Chari was trapped leg before wicket by Taijul Islam when Zimbabwe’s score was 70 for the loss of two wickets.
Chari hit a polished 43 from 82 balls featuring three fours and a sixer.
Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams were on four and two runs respectively.
Miraz and Taijul got one wicket each for 16 and 34 runs respectively.
