Motivated Bangladesh Women’s Football team will take on Pakistan Women’s Football team in their Group-A match of the SAFF Women’s Championship at Dasharath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal today. The match will kick-off at 1.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time).
Bangladesh Women’s Football team took part in a full-fledged practice session at the Armed Forces Ground in Kathmandu on Friday.
A total of seven teams splitting into two groups are taking part in the SAFF Women’s Championship, the most prestigious football meet for women of South Asian Region. All the matches of the gala tournament will be held at Dasharath Rangasala Stadium.
Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan are in Group-A, while Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka are in Group-B. Top two team’s from each group will get the tickets of the semi-final. The two semi-finals will be held on September 16. The winners of the two semi-finals will face each other in the final on September 19.
Bangladesh made an auspicious start as they defeated Maldives by three goals to nil in their first Group-A match on September 7.
On the other hand, India beat Pakistan by 3-0 goals in their first Group-A match on the same day.
Bangladesh need a big-margin win to reach the semi-final. If Bangladesh win today’s match, Bangladesh need just a draw against India to reach the semi-final. Bangladesh will face India on September 13.
Captain Sabina Khatun of Bangladesh team scored two goals against Maldives. Her compatriot Masura Parveen netted one goal in that match.
Before today’s match, defender of Bangladesh Women’s Football team Akhi Khatun said, ” We played against Pakistan earlier. We could not increase a good marginal victory against Maldives. We shall try to play attacking football against Pakistan. We shall try to win against Pakistan in a big margin.”
Bangladesh Under-18 Football team blanked Pakistan Under-18 Football team in their SAFF Under-18 Championship in 2018.
It may be mentioned that players of Bangladesh Women’s Football team met with Australian pacer Brett Lee in the team hotel of Bangladesh team at Kathmandu. Lee will play in a cricket meet for veteran cricketers. The cricket competition will be held in India from September 10 to October 1.
Lee had a small chat with Bangladesh Women’s Football team. He said, ” Best wishes for all of you.”
