SAFF Women's Championship: Bangladesh take on Maldives today

Bangladesh Women’s Football team will take on Maldives Women’s Football team in their first Group-A match of the SAFF Women’s Championship at the Dasharath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal today. The match will kick-off at 5.45pm (Bangladesh Standard Time).
A total of seven teams splitting into two groups are taking part in the SAFF Women’s Championship, the most prestigious football met for the women teams of South Asian Region. Defending champions India, Bangladesh, Maldives and Pakistan are in Group-A, while hosts Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka are in Group-B. Top two teams from each group will get the tickets of the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-final will face each other in the final.
Before today’s match, Bangladesh faced Maldives in two matches of SAFF Women’s Championship. Bangladesh defeated Maldives by 3-1 goals in 2014 in Pakistan. Sabina Khatun of Bangladesh scored two goals and her teammate Mainum Rana netted one goals.
Bangladesh blanked Maldives by six goals to nil in 2016 in India. Sirat Jahan of Bangladesh scored a hat-trick and her compatriot Sabina Khatun netted two goals and Nargis Khatun scored one goal.
Bangladesh Women’s Football team took part in the full-fledged practice session at the Army Headquarters Ground in Kathmandu.
Head Coach of Bangladesh Women’s Football team Golam Rabbani Choton said, ” I hope my girls make a winning start in the tomorrow’s match. We took one and half month preparation before this tournament and the girls have a well and satisfactory fitness level. My girls practiced three days in Nepal. I hope my girls will win over Maldives Women’s team.”
Captain of Bangladesh Women’s Football team Sabina Khatun said, ” We finished the last practice session in Kathmandu before tomorrow’s match. We are highly inspired and I hope that we shall perform well against our opponents tomorrow.”
