Bangladesh took the command in the second Test against Sri Lanka making 365 in the first innings on the second day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday.
In reply, Sri Lanka made 143 for the loss of two wickets before the bails were drawn for the second day. Bangladesh led by 222 runs in the first innings.
Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 277 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 115 and 135 runs respectively.
Litton das could able to add more six runs on the second day as he (141) was caught at the second slip by Kusal Mendis off Kusan Rajitha when Bangladesh’s total was 296 for the loss of six wickets.
Sixth-down Mosaddek Hossain (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella off Kusan Rajitha when the hosts’ score was 296 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Mosaddek’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim and Taijul Islam added 49 runs for the eighth wicket partnership before Taijul Islam (15) was caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella off Asitha Fernando when Bangladesh’s total was 345 for the loss of eight wickets.
Eighth-down Khaled Ahmed (0) was caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella off Asitha Fernando when the home side’s score was 349 for the loss of nine wickets.
Number-11 Ebadot Hossain (0) was run out by a joint-effort of Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusan Rajitha when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 175 runs. His 355-ball innings was belted with 21 fours. Mushfiqur Rahim reached his 150-run landmark using 291 balls including 19 fours.
Kusan Rajitha captured five wickets in the space of 64 runs, while Asitha Fernando claimed four wickets at the cost of 93 runs.
Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Kurunaratne, the two openers of Sri Lanka made a good start as they put on together 95 runs in the opening stand before Oshada Fernando was caught at the first slip by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Ebadot Hossain.
Oshada Fernando knocked a fine 57. His 91-ball innings was studded with eight fours and a sixer. It was Oshada’s fifth half-century in Test cricket.
After Oshada’s dismissal, Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis added together 44 runs for the second wicket partnership before Kusal (11) was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan when the islanders’ total was 139 for the loss of two wickets.
Karunaratne remained unbeaten with 70 runs. He hit seven fours in his 127-ball innings.
Kusan Rajitha remained unbeaten with naught.
Shakib Al Hasan and Ebadot Hossain took one wicket each for 19 and 31 runs respectively.
