A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka recently at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital for cooperation and collaboration in the field of higher education of both the countries.
Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and Mohan Lal Grero, State Minister of Higher Education and Highways, Sri Lanka signed the MoU on behalf of their respective countries in the presence of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.
Under the umbrella memorandum, both the governments shall encourage establishment, implementation and development of joint degree/ diploma programs at graduation, post-graduation and doctoral research levels between the Universities.
As per the MoU, the governments of both countries shall strive to receive and accept undergraduate and graduate students to study at their higher education institutions.
The governments shall progressively collaborate towards mutual recognition of academic and professional degrees, diplomas, certificates and other qualifications awarded in the two countries, within the framework of their respective legislations and regulations.
The Memorandum will be effective on the date of its signature and shall enter into force immediately, for a period of five (5) years, which shall be automatically renewed for the same period unless any one Party notifies their wish to terminate it in writing.
