Bangladesh smashed Sri Lanka by 23 runs in the Asia Cup at Shere e Bangla National Cricket Stadium here in Mirpur on Sunday.

Chasing 148-run target set by Tigers, Lankan players managed to score 124 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Al-Amin Hossain took three wickets while Shakib bagged Shehan Jayasuriya (26) and Dinesh Chandimal (37) was caught in Taskin’s hand in a Mahmudullah delivery.

Sabbir hit a fabulous 80-run knock off 40 balls hitting 10 groundbreaking bicycle boundaries and three whirlwind maximums before the departure.

Mahmudullah brought Bangladesh back into the match with a timely wicket in the 11th over. Chandimal was dismissed for a well-made 37. The ball scooped for a simple catch to Taskin at deep point.

PVD Chameera bagged three wickets while, AD Mathews and KMDN Kulasekara picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first against Sri Lanka.

Shakib got best player of the match title and Soumya Sarkar awarded best catch of the match.

Besides, Sabbir Rahman won man of the match award title for his outstanding batting.
