Bangladesh scored 194 for the loss of eight wickets in the first innings against Afghanistan on the second day of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
Earlier, Afghanistan piled up 342 in their first innings on the second day.
Bangladesh faced a batting collapse as they lost their eight wickets for 146 runs.
Mominul Hsaque and Liton Das fought back against the superb spin attack of Afganistan.
Mominul Haque hit a fine 52. His 71-ball innings saw eight shots across the ropes. It was Mominul’s 13th Test half-century.
Liton Das made 33 from 66 balls featuring three fours and a sixer.
Later, Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 44. He hit two sixes and a four in his 74-ball knock.
Mosaddek Hossain and Taijul Islam added 48 runs for the unbroken ninth wicket partnership before the bails were drawn for the second day.
Wizard spinner Rashid Khan claimed four wickets for 47 runs, while Mohammad Nabi bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 53 runs.
Yamin Ahmadzai and Qais Ahmed took one wicket each for 21 and 22 runs respectively.
Openers Shadman Islam, Soumya Sarkar, skipper Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehidy Hasan Miraz were dismissed for naught, 17, 11, zero, seven and 11 runs respectively.
Afghanistan resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 271 for the loss of five wickets and then added more 71 runs losing rest of the five wickets.
Asghar Afghan and Afsar Zazai resumed their over-night score of 88 and 35 runs respectively.
Asghar could add more four runs and Afsar could add more six runs before they were victims of Taijul Islam.
Later, Rashid Khan hit a captain’s knock of 51. He struck three sixes and two fours in his 61-ball innings before he was caught & bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Afganistan’s innings came to an end. It was Rashid Khan’s maiden Test half-century.
Taijul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh got success with the cherry on the second day.
Taijul Islam captured four wickets at the cost 116 runs, while Shakib Al Hasan bagged a pair of wickets instead of 64 runs.
