Bangladesh Under-19 Women’s Football team clinched the championship title of the SAFF Under-19 Women’s Championship beating India Under-19 Women’s Football team by a solitary goal in the final at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur on Wednesday.
After a barren first half, Anai Mogini of Bangladesh Under-19 Football team scored the all-important goal by a forceful shot in the 79th minute of the play.
By virtue of yesterday’s victory, Bangladesh Women retained their championship title.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh Under-18 Women’s Football team emerged the champions by beating Nepal Under-18 Women’s Football team in the SAFF Under-18 Championship in 2018. That tournament is turned into SAFF Under-19 Championship.
Bangladesh missed the easiest chance in the 15th minute of the play. Tahura Khatun of Bangladesh struck an angular shot and Indian defender Nirmala Devi resisted the ball on the goalline. Then Indian goalie Anshika kept the ball in her gloves.
Bangladesh again missed another chance in the 25th minute of the match. Anai Mogini’s long-range shot bounced back from the second bar. In the 46th minute, Shamsunnahar’s shot bounced back from the crosspiece.
Shamsunnahar’s header went over the crossbar in the 60th minute of the play. The ball came on his way from a cross of her teammate Shaheda Akter Ripa.
