Minister of State for Religion Md. Faridul Haque Khan said, late Jinananda Mahathir was a great Buddhist guru and social reformer. He has played an important role in spreading the message of peace in Buddhism and in the welfare of the Buddhist community. For this contribution, the people of Buddhism will always remember him with reverence.
He also said that one of the main principles of the constitution of this country is secularism. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to build a secular and non-communal Bangladesh. Therefore, Bangladesh today is a role model of communal harmony and development on the world map.
He was speaking as the chief guest on the last day of the national funeral of Karmajyoti Jinananda Mahather, former president of the Lohagara-Satkania Buddhist Monks’ Association, organized by the National Funeral Celebration Council at Mahabodhi Para in Barahatiya Khusang, Lohagara on Friday afternoon.
The event was presided over by Gyanshree Mahather and was inaugurated by Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaising MP and welcomed by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Barrister Biplob Barua.
Zafar Alam MP, Manoranjan Sheel Gopal MP, Wasika Ayesha Khan MP, Chittagong Range DIG Anwar Hossain, Prof. Dr. Sukomal Barua, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mominur Rahman, Lohagara Upazila Parishad Chairman Ziaul Haque Chowdhury Babul and Satkania Upazila Parishad Chairman MA Motaleb were present.
