Bangladesh on Wednesday reported 37 new deaths of the novel coronavirus in a span of 24 hours, raising the body count to 1,582.
Besides, the caseload surged to 122,660 after 3,462 new cases detected in the same span.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said it in a regular press briefing in Dhaka.
DGHS Additional Director General Nasima Sultana said in the briefing that another 2,031 patients recovered from the disease at home and in hospital care in the same period.
It has brought the total number of recoveries to 49,666, Dr. Sultana said.
The DGHS official said that the rate of recovery from COVID-19 currently stands at 40.49 percent, while the mortality rate is 1.29 percent.
She said total 16,433 samples were tested at 66 authorised laboratories across the country with 21.07 percent returning positive results.
Bangladesh reported its first case of Covid-19 infections on March8 and registered first death of the virus on March 18.
