Hosts Bangladesh National Football team reached the final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament when they beat Thailand Football team by a solitary goal in the second semi-final at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Bangladesh will take on Malaysia tomorrow in the final at the same venue. The match kicks-off at 5.00 pm.
Nasir Uddin of Bangladesh scored the all-important goal.
Bangladesh presented a better brand of football and earned the victory in front of
27,000 thousand spectators at the big bowl.
Bangladesh produced more attacks than their opponents and snatched the much-awaited win.
Bangladesh got the first opportunity in the 5th minute when Sohel Rana of Bangladesh got a pass from his teammate Mamunul in the danger zone but his shot went wide.
In the 26th minute, Zahid Hasan got the ball in the Thailand D-box from a throw of his teammate Rayhan but Zahid Hasan’s header went over the crosspiece.
Bangladesh much-awaited goal came in the 39th minute of the play when Nasir Uddin got the ball from Mamunul Islam’s left side flag-kick and Nasir Uddin tapped the ball into the net from a hand-shaking distance.
After the lemon-break Mamunul Islam’s forceful shot narrowly passed away the right side bar in the 55th minute of the play. Thailand got an easy chance in the 60th minute when Parmpak Pakron found the ball inside the danger zone from a free-kick of his teammate substitute Chayawat but Pakron’s header was gripped by Bangladesh goalie Sahidul.
After four minutes Thailand was deprived from a goal when Pakorn’s curve shot bounced back from the goal bar.
In the 76th minute of the game, Hemanta’s power-packed shot went over the Thailand crossbar.
Bangladesh defenders showed determination to tackle the attacks of Thailand thus the opponents of the red and green outfit could not break the tight defence of Bangladesh.
