Sylhet Sixers posted a massive 76-run victory over Rajshahi Kings in the 29th match of the UCB 6th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
Sent into bat first, Sylhet Sixers piled up a mammoth total of 180 for the loss of six wickets and then bundled out Rajshahi Kings for 104 off 18.2 overs.
Sylhet Sixers had a shaky start as they lost two wickets for 28 runs.
Then Jason Roy and Afif Hossain repaired the damage adding together 62 runs for the third wicket partnership before Roy was bowled out by S Prasanna when Sylhet’s total was 90 for the loss of three wickets.
Roy hit his team’s highest of 42. His 28-ball sparkle innings was belted with four fours and two sixes.
Afif Hossain and third-down Nicholas Pooran added together 29 runs for in the fourth wicket stand before Pooran (19) was caught at the deep point by C Jonker off Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Sylhet’s score was 119 for the loss of four wickets.
Later, Alok Kapali and Sohail Tanvir put on together 41 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket partnership before Sylhet innings came to an end.
Afif Hossan hit a polished 28 from 29 balls featuring three fours and a sixer. He was stumped out by wicketkeeper Zakir Hasan off RN ten Doeschate when the team’s total was 123 for the loss of five wickets.
Opener Liton Das made a respectable 24 from 13 balls hitting three fours and a sixer, while Sohail Tanvir remained unbeaten with 23. His 10-ball innings saw four fours.
Mustafizur Rahman bagged a couple of wickets at the cost of 43 runs, while Prasanna, Doeschate, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Arafat Sunny took one wicket apiece.
Later, Fazle Mahmud was the only batsman of Rajshahi Kings who fought back against the tight and controlled bowling attack of Sylhet Sixres.
Mahmud hit a marvelous 50. His 41-ball innings had six fours and a sixer.
Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Nawaz, Alok Kapali and Taskin Ahmed played the key role in demolishing Rajshahi’s innings.
Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Nawaz grabbed three wickets each instead of 17 and 22 runs respectively, while Alok Kapali and Taskin Ahmed bagged a pair of wickets each for 15 and 20 runs respectively.
Sohail Tanvir of Sylhet Sixers was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
