Coming from behind, Indian National Football team managed a face-saving 2-2 draw against Bangladesh National Football team in a FIFA International friendly at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India on Wednesday.
Sunil Chhetri scored both the goals for India in the 14th and 92nd minutes while Mithun Chowdhury scored for Bangladesh in the 51st and Indian defender Arnab Mondal scored a suicidal goal in the 64th minute.
Sunil Chetty put India ahead in the 14th minute by a placing shot after a coordinated attack with his forward duo Robin Singh (1-0).
Mithun Chowdhury leveled the margin for Bangladesh in the 51st minute by tapping the ball home from close, utilising on a superb left wing cross from Sohel Rana through Vincent Hemanta Biswas (1-1).
Bangladesh put strong pressure over India and its defender Arnab Mondal sent the ball to his own net while trying to clear a Vincent cross (2-1).
In the 2nd minute of the five-minute added time, Sunil Chettry salvaged the Indian pride by a left footer from close (2-2).
In the 5th minute of the stoppage time, Indian goalie Subrata Paul was shown the second yellow card to get marching order for rough charge against Toklis Ahmed of Bangladesh.
Vincent and Yeasin made their debut for Bangladesh in the match.
Both Indian and Bangladesh faced each other previously 30 occasions in friendly and international contests where India won on 17 occasions against Bangladesh’s five counts. The remaining eight matches between them ended in draw, including 1-1 draw in their last meeting in SAF Championship Kathmandu last year.
