Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 430 in the first innings against West Indies on the second day of the 1st Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday.
West Indies were at the stumps at 75 for the loss of two wickets.
The Tigers resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 242 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das resumed their innings with 39 and 34 runs respectively.
Liton Das was bowled out by Jomel Warrican after adding just four runs when the hosts’ total was 248 for the loss of six wickets.
After Liton’s dismissal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz salvaged their team from danger contributing together 67 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was caught at the point by Kraigg Brathwaite off Rahkeem Cornwall when Bangladesh’s score was 315 for the loss of seven wickets.
Miraz notched up a superb 103. He hit 13 fours in his 168-ball innings. It was his maiden Test century.
Shakib made a marvelous 68. His 150-ball knock was ornamented with five fours. Shakib fulfilled his 25th Test half-century using 110 deliveries with five fours.
After Shakib’s departure, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam added 44 runs in the eighth wicket stand before Taijul Islam (18) was caught behind Joshua Da Silva off Shannon Gabriel when Bangladesh’s total was 359 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then Miraz and Nayeem Islam put on together 57 runs for the ninth wicket partnership before Nayeem Islam was bowled out by Nkrumah Bonner when the home side’s score was 416 for the loss of nine wickets.
Nayeem scored 24 from 46 balls including four fours.
Miraz was caught at the long on by substitute KAR Hodge off Rakheem Cornwall when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Jomel Warrican captured four wickets at the cost of 133 runs, while Cornwall bagged two wickets in the space of 114 runs.
Gabriel and Bonner took one wicket each conceding 16 and 69 runs respectively.
Later, West Indies had a shaky start as left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman trapped leg before wicket John Campbell for just three runs when the visitors’ score was 11.
Mustafizur Rahman struck again as one-down Shayne Moseley (2) was trapped leg before wicket by ‘Cutter Boy’ when the islanders’ total was 24 for the loss of two wickets.
Opener Kraigg Brathwaite was on 49, while second-down Nkrumah Bonner was on 17 before the two umpires pocketed the bails for the second day.
Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets for 18 runs.
