A terrific 136 by Tamim Iqbal guided Bangladesh to pile up a mammoth 391 for the loss of seven wickets in the first innings against Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI on the first day of the two-day warm-up match at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Bangladesh made a shaky start as they lost their opener Soumya Sarkar for just nine runs when Bangladesh’s score was 26.
Later, Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque rescued their team from debacle contributing together 143 runs for the second wicket stand before Mominul Haque was retired hurt when Bangladesh’s total was 169 for the loss of two wickets.
Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal played 182 balls hitting seven sixes and nine fours before he was retired hurt.
One-down promising Mominul Haque notched up a superb 73 off 103 balls featuring 10 fours.
After departure of Mominul Haque, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim put on together 75 runs in the third wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled out by C Karunaratne when the Tigers’ score was 244 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Tamim Iqbal was retired hurt when Bangladesh’s total was 264 for the loss of four wickets.
Later, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 38 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Shakib Al Hasan was trapped leg before wicket by L Ambuldeniya when the Tigers’ score was 302 for the loss of five wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad and Liton Das added together 59 runs in the sixth wicket partnership before Mahmudullah Riyad was caught behind by LD Chandimal off Karunaratne when Bengladesh’s score was 361 for the loss of six wickets.
Fifth-down Liton Das remained unbeaten with 57. He struck 10 fours in his 64-ball innings.
Fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad made 43 from 73 balls featuring three fours and two sixes.
Shakib Al Hasan scored 30 from 46 balls hitting three fours.
Mushfiqur Rahim added 21 runs to the Bangladesh total.
Karunaratne captured three wickets at the cost of 61 runs, while Ambuldeniya and SMLD Samarakoon took one wicket each for 57 and 70 runs respectively.
