Two centuries from Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque powered Bangladesh to pile up 303 for the loss of five wickets in the first innings against Zimbabwe on the first day of the second and final Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh lost three quick wickets for pallid 26 runs.
Opener Imrul Kayes (0) was caught behind by Regis Chakabva off Kyle Jarvis when Bangladesh’s score was just 13.
Liton Das, the other opener (9), was caught at the mid-wicket by Brandon Mavuta off Jarvis when the team’s total was 16 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Mohammad Mithun (0) was caught at the second slip by Brendan Taylor off Donald Tiripano when the hosts’ score was 26 for the loss of three wickets.
Then promising Mominul Haque and dependable Mushfiqur Rahim salvaged their team from catastrophe contributing together 266 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Mominul Haque was caught at point by Brian Chari off Tendai Chatara when the Tigers’ total was 292 for the loss of four wickets.
Mominul Haque notched up a gritty 161. His 247-ball innings had 19 fours. Mominul fulfilled his seventh Test century using 150 balls.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 111. His 231-ball knock was studded with nine fours. It was Mushfiqur Rahim’s 6th Test century.
After Mominul’s dismissal, night watchman came on the crease, but his innings was short-lived as he (4) was caught behind by Regis Chakabva off Kyle Jarvis when Bangladesh’s score was 299 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah (0) were at stumps.
Kyle Jarvis grabbed three wickets at the cost of 48 runs, while Tendai Chatara and Donald Tiripano took one wicket each for 28 and 33 runs respectively.
