Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 290 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 50 overs against Zimbabwe in the second One Day International (ODI) match at the Harare Sports Club Ground in Zimbabwe on Sunday.
Bangladesh made a solid start as openers Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque put on together 71 runs in the opening stand before Tamim was caught at the deep square leg by Takudzwanashe Kaitano off Tanaka Chivanga.
Tamim hit a polished 50. His 45-ball innings saw 10 fours and a sixer. It was Tamim’s 55th half-century in ODI cricket.
After Tamim’s dismissal, Anamul Haque (20) could stay at the crease for a short period as he was run out by Chivanga when the tourists’ total was 77 for the loss of two wickets.
After Anamul’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto repaired the damage contributing together 50 runs for the third wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim (25) was caught at the deep mid-wicket by Tony Munyonga off Wessly Madhevere when Bangladesh’s score was 127 for the loss of three wickets.
After Mushfiqur’s dismissal, Shanto was caught behind by wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva off Madhevere when the visitors’ total was 148 for the loss of four wickets.
Shanto made 38 from 55 deliveries featuring five fours.
After Shanto’s departure, Mahmudullah Riyad and Afif Hossain built a worthy partnership. They scored together 81 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Afif was caught at the short third man by Chivanga off Sikandar Raza when Bangladesh’s score was 229 for the loss of five wickets.
Riyad remained unbeaten with 80 runs. He hit three sixes and three fours in his 84-ball innings. It was Riyad’s 26th half-century in ODI cricket.
Afif hit a run-a-ball 41 with four fours.
After Afif’s dismissal, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (15) was trapped leg before wicket by Sikandar Raza when the touring side’s total was 249 for the loss of six wickets.
After Miraz’s removal, Taskin Ahmed (1) was trapped leg before wicket by Sikandar Raza when Bangladesh’s score was 265 for the loss of seven wickets.
Seventh-down Taijul Islam (6) was caught at the extra cover by Brad Evans off Victor Nyauchi when the touring side’s total was 283 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then, Shoriful Islam (1) was run out by Nyauchi and Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Sikandar Raza grabbed three wickets in the space of 56 runs, while Madhevere bagged two wickets at the cost of 40 runs.
