Bangladesh Women’s made a frustrating in the ICC Women’s World TwentyT20 losing to India Women’s by 72 runs in the opening Group B match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Tuesday.
With the day’s defeat, Bangladesh women’s team maintained the losing streak in the T20 cricket against India after losing all the eight matches.
Replying to Indian mammoth total of 163 for 5, Bangladesh were forced to fold their innings for 91 runs for the loss of five wickets in stipulated 20 overs.
Going to bat, Bangladesh lost wickets on a regular interval — 19, 24, 25, 44 and 68 runs — with middle order Nigar Sultana scoring the team highest unconquered 27 runs off 25 balls hitting a boundary.
Opened Sharmin Akhter contributed 27-ball 21 runs, including three fours, Lower order Fahima Khatun made 17-ball 14 runs hitting two fours, top order Rumana Ahmed scored 19-ball 12 runs with one four while skipper Jahanara Alam added an unbeaten 10 runs off 13 balls.
AA Patil and Poonam Jadav claimed two wickets each giving away 16 and 17 runs respectively.
Two down Indian batter Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored 29-ball 40 runs hitting three fours and two sixes, was adjudged the player of the match.
Sent in to bat first earlier, India made a good start scoring 62 runs in 7.4 overs in the opening stand before Nahida Akhter made the first breakthrough bowling out opener Vellaswamy Vanitha, who scored 24-ball 38 runs featuring seven boundaries.
Bangladesh bounced back to the match in the very next over when Fahima Akhter trapped lbw Smriti Mandhana for a duck in 8.3 over, leaving India at 63 for 2.
Rumana Ahmed grabbed the prized wicket of Indian skipper Mithali Raj, who was caught by Bangladesh skipper Jahanara Alam, contributing the team highest 42 runs off 35 balls hitting five fours at 95 for 3 in 13.3 overs.
Rumana took her 2nd wicket sending back Harmanpreet Kaur to the pavilion at 136 for 4 in the 17.3 overs. Kaur was caught by Nahida off a Rumana delivery scoring 29-ball 40 including three fours and two sixes.
Number six AA Patil fell victim of lbw by Fahima Khatun scoring a single run off two balls at 141 for 5 in 18.1 overs.
Number five Veda Krishnamurthy contributed an unbeaten 36 runs off 24 balls with the help of two over boundaries.
Fahima Khatun and Rumana Ahmed grabbed two wickets each conceding 31 and 35 runs respectively while Nahida Akhter took one 25 runs.
