BSS, Dhaka :
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said Bangladesh has now become the role model across the globe for its all agricultural successes.
“Bangladesh will soon turn into a middle-income country by ensuring cent percent nutritious food in the country for the people through the development of food production, procurement and marketing system,” he told a seminar.
He said this on Wednesday while addressing the seminar on the occasion of the ‘World Food Day-2019’ at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in the city.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations organized the seminar, it added.
Highlighting the contributions of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to agriculture, the minister said that Bangladesh has reached on the verge of becoming a full-fledged middle-income country under the pragmatic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Already, the country is self-sufficient in granular food. In many cases there is surplus in food and the country is looking for the market to export this food.” he said.
He said the government is implementing various programmes to ensure safe and nutritious food for the people. FAO Representative in Bangladesh Robert Douglas Simpson was present as guest of honour with Acting Secretary of Agriculture Ministry Arifur Rahman Apu in the chair. Institute of Nutrition Director Visith Chavisit of Mahidol University in Thailand presented the key note paper in the seminar. Later, the minister inaugurated the 3-day ‘Food-Fair’ on the KIB premise and visited several stalls in the fair.
