Dr Golap openly talked with The New Nation about the current government’s plan for the country’s sustainable development.
The New Nation: There are many expectations of the country’s people as Bangladesh Awami League came in power thrice. How to coordinate them?
Abdus Sobhan Golap: As a deltaic country, Bangladesh will be a role model to the world. Bangladesh Government made Delta Plan 2100 last year with the aspiration of achieving ‘safe, climate resilient and prosperous Delta’ by 2100. In other words, it is the plan for moving Bangladesh forward towards the end of 21st Century. Efforts have been made to formulate the plan exactly in the same way we want to build Bangladesh in coming years of this century. This plan has also been made by the adjustment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The New Nation: The government and the party would be separated is the plan of Bangabandhu, the founder of Bangladesh. Will the Awami League implement his dream?
Abdus Sobhan Golap: Government and party may be separated in some work places but not fully. However, those who do not have greater responsibility in the political party can be given a better portfolio in the government.
The New Nation: The current cabinet has been asked that its responsibilities would be monitored. How it might be?
Abdus Sobhan Golap: There is no specific direction to it. It may be one to two years or more. As our charismatic leader Prime Minister Sheik Hasina said that we are watching. So, it depends on her. But it can be said that the present cabinet is an excellent combination of young and old.
The New Nation: In the past, there are many bad reports of BCL, but are now under control. How it has been possible?
Abdus Sobhan Golap: There is no terror activity and session jam in the public university. The party president Sheikh Hasina gave book to the students instead of weapon. It is the hidden mystery bringing peace to the educational institution.
The New Nation: There are examples to be woman president in the neighboring countries. When will Bangladesh get a woman president?
Abdus Sobhan Golap: The Awami League government believes truly of women empowerment. There is balance in the current cabinet of it. So the Awami League will do it in timely.
The New Nation: What do you say about your office’s success?
Abdus Sobhan Golap: Journalist friends and our general leaders, who regularly visit my office, can give real observation about the success of my office. By being a journalist, you can see how much progress has been made, how good I can do. We have fully digitalized our office. There are all modern facilities like WiFi, IT rooms; computers in every room and also separate IT room for journalists. Journalists can use it at any time. You can consider how much digitalization this office has been. I think this office supplement can be said with the vision that Sheikh Hasina has given.
The New Nation: Is there any home work for next party council and have you mental preparation for greater responsibility?
Abdus Sobhan Golap: There is no advance home work for next council. However, our council is conducted as per party constitution. However, the post of general secretary is almost dependent on the party chief’s preference. But she also emphasizes the party’s highest policy-making forum. If they consider me for a bigger position of Bangladesh Awami League, I’ll definitely come forward.
