Bangladesh made 233 in the first innings against Pakistan on the first day of the first Test cricket match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Friday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh faced an early debacle as they lost their two openers for just three runs.
Then, one-down Najmul Hossain Shanto and second-down Mominul Haque mended the innings contributed together 59 runs for the third wicket partnership before Mominul Haque was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan off Shaheen Shah Afridi when Bangladesh’s score was 62 for the loss of three wickets.
After Mominul’s dismissal, Shanto and Mahmudullah Riyad added together 33 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Shanto was caught behind by Mohammad Rizwan off Mohammad Abbas when the team’s total was 95 for the loss of four wickets.
Shanto knocked a painstaking 44. He hit six fours in his 110-ball innings.
Mominul made 30 from 59 deliveries featuring five fours.
After Shanto’s departure, Mahmudullah Riyad ( 25) was caught at the third slip by Asad Shafiq off Shaheen Shah Afridi when the tourists’ score was 107 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Mohammad Mithun and Liton Das put on together 54 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Liton Das was trapped leg before wicket by Haris Sohel when the visitors’ total was 161 for the loss of six wickets.
Liton scored 33 from 46 balls with seven fours.
After Liton’s departure, Mohammad Mithun and Taijul Islam contributed together 53 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Taijul Islam (24) was caught at the mid-off by Yasir Shah off Haris Sohel when the team’s total was 214 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Taijul’s dismissal, Bangladesh batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
Mohammad Mithun notched up a splendid 63. His 140-ball innings was belted with seven fours and a sixer. Mithun was caught behind by Mohammad Rizwan off Naseem Shah when the touring side’s score was 233 for the loss of nine wickets. It was Mithun’s second half-century in Test cricket.
Then Abu Jayed (0) was run out by a direct throw of Mohammad Abbas and Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Shaheen Shah Afridi captured four wickets at the cost of 53 runs, while Haris Sohel and Mohammad Abbas picked up two wickets each instead of 11 and 19 runs respectively.
