Bangladesh made a fighting total of 155 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs against Sri Lanka in the first Twenty20 International Cricket match at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Tamim Iqbal (0) was cleanly bowled out by Lasith Malinga before Bangladesh opened their account.
Then Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman put on together 57 runs for the second wicket partnership before Sabbir Rahman (16) was run out by Seekkuge Prasanna when the team’s total was 57 for the loss of one wicket.
After dismissal of Sabbir, opener Soumya Sarkar could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught by Thisara Perera off Vukum Sanjaya when the Tigers’ score was 57 for the loss of three wickets.
Soumya made 29 from 20 balls featuring three fours and a sixer.
After departure of Sarkar, Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim (8) was bowled out by Asela Gunaratne when the tourists’ score was 70 for the loss of four wickets.
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (11) was caught at the point by Asela Gunaratne off Seekkuge Prasanna when Bangladesh’s total was 82 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Mosaddek Hossain and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 57 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Mahmudullah Riyad was bowled out by Lasith Malinga when the team’s score was 139 for the loss of six wickets.
Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 34. His 30-ball innings was studded with three fours, while Mahmududullah Riyad hit a polished 31. His 26-ball innings was decorated with three fours.
Lasith Malinga bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 38 runs.
Seekkuge Prasanna, Asela Gunaratne, Vikum Sanjaya took one wicket each for 19, 24 and 24 runs respectively.
