Despite Anamul Haque’s century Bangladesh lost to West Indies by three wickets in the first One Day International (ODI) match of the three-match Dhaka Bank ODI series at the National Cricket Stadium, Saint George’s in Grenada on Wednesday.Sent into bat first, Bangladesh scored 217 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs.In reply, West Indies sailed home in 39.4 overs making 219 for the loss of seven wickets.Anamul Haque hit a superb 109 from 138 balls featuring 11 fours and a six before he was trapped leg before wicket by Dwayne Bravo.Nasir Hossain and Tamim Iqbal were the other batsmen of Bangladesh who could score a modest 26 each.Dwayne Bravo captured four wickets at the cost of 32 runs while Chris Gayle, Jason Holder and Ravi Rampaul got one wicket each for 19, 39 and 48 runs respectively.Needing 218 runs to win, West Indies faced an early batting collapse as the islanders lost their first five wickets for 34 runs.Later, Denesh Ramdin and Kieron Pollard rescued their team from danger contributing together 145 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Denesh Ramdin was bowled out by spinner Shohag Gazi when the Caribbeans total was 179 for the loss of six wickets.Kieron Pollard was the highest scorer of West Indies who cracked a brilliant 89 off 70 balls hitting six over boundaries and five boundaries before he was caught at the long on by Mahmudullah Riyad off Al-Amin Hossain. Denesh Ramdin hit a marvelous 74 from 76 balls including six fours and a sixer.Jason Holder remained unbeaten with 22 off 15 balls with three shots across the ropes.Al-Amin Hossain claimed four wickets instead of 51 runs while Mahmudullah Riyad, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Shohag Gazi took one wicket each for 20, 22 , 46 runs respectively.Kieron Pollard of West Indies was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.
