Bangladesh lose to New Zealand XI

The touring Bangladesh National Cricket team lost to New Zealand XI by three wickets (according to D/L Method) in their lone warm-up match at Cobham Oval in Whangarei, New Zealand on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh made a fighting total of 245 for the loss of eight wickets in 43 overs.
In reply, New Zealand XI reached the winning target making 247 for the loss of seven wickets in 41.4 overs.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as Tamim Iqbal, the dashing opener (1) was caught behind by wicketkeeper BJ Horne off IG McPeake when Bangladesh’s total was just seven.
Then opener Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar repaired the damage contributing together 55 runs for the second wicket stand before Imrul Kayes was caught by MB McEwan off BR Hampton when the Tigers score was 62 for the loss of two wickets.
After dismissal of Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah Riyad built another notable partnership. They contributed 34 runs in the third wicket stand before Soumya Sarkar was caught by BS Smith off HB Shipley when Bangladesh’s total was 96 for the loss of three wickets.
After departure of Sarkar, Mahmudullah Riyad and Shakib Al Hasan added together 59 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan (23) was caught by MB McEwan off S Hicks when Bangladesh’s score was 155 for the loss of four wickets.
After removal of Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad (retired not out) returned to the pavilion when Bangladesh’s total was 160 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman added together 45 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Sabbir Rahman (11) was caught by Bharat Popli off BR Hampton when the Tigers’ total was 205 for the loss of five wickets.
Later, Bangladesh batsmen failed to build any remarkable partnership.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a notable 45 from 41 balls featuring two fours and a sixer, while Mahmudullah Riyad made a polished 43 off 46 balls including two fours and a six.
Soumya Sarkar hit a polished 40 from 47 balls with four fours.
Imrul Kayes shone with the willow making a fine 36 from 29 balls with seven boundaries.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza remained unbeaten with 21. He hit two fours in his 19-ball innings.
S Hicks, BR Hampton bagged a pair of wickets each instead of 30 and 44 runs respectively.
Besides, HB Shipley, IG McPeake, AY Patel took one wicket each.
Later, wicketkeeper-batsman BJ Horne played the vital role for his team’s victory. He remained unbeaten with 60. He hit five fours in his 53-ball innings.
Opener BS Smith hit an exact 50. He struck three fours and a sixer in his 67-ball knock.
Bharat Popli made 45 from 48 balls including two fours.
BR Hampton remained unbeaten with 29. He hit five fours in his 21-ball innings.
Shakib Al Hasan grabbed three wickets at the cost of 41 runs while Mustafizur Rahman bagged a pair of wickets instead of 39 runs.
Besides, Mahmudullah Riyad got one wicket for 14 runs.
