Despite a terrific century by Imrul Kayes Bangladesh lost to England by 21 runs in the first One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
Imrul Kayes notched up a wonderful 112 from 119 balls featuring 11 fours and two sixes. It was Imrul’s 2nd ODI hundred.
Shakib Al Hasan hit a splendid 79. His 55-ball innings was decorated with 11 fours and a sixer. It was Shakib’s 31st ODI half-century.
Electing to bat first, England piled up a massive total of 309 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh were all out for 288 off 47. 5 overs.
Bangladesh had a modest start with Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes,
the two openers of Bangladesh put on together 46 runs in the opening stand before Tamim Iqbal (17) was caught at the cover by JM Vince off JT Ball.
After dismissal of Tamim, Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman added together 36 runs for the second wicket partnership before Sabbir Rahman (18) was caught at the deep mid- wicket by DJ Willey off JT Ball when Bangladesh’s score was 82 for the loss of two wickets. It was a stunning catch indeed.
After departure of Sabbir, Imrul Kayes and Mahmudullah Riyad added a worthy 50 runs for the third wicket partnership before Riyad (25) was caught at the deep mid-wicket by substitute SW Billings off Adil Rashid when Bangladesh’s total was 132 for the loss of three wickets.
Later, Mushfiqur Rahim (12) was caught at the place between deep mid-wicket and wide long-on by substitute SW Billings off Adil Rashid when the hosts’ score was 153 for the loss of four wickets. Then Imrul Kayes and Shakib Al Hasan rescued their team from danger contributing together 118 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was caught at the short mid-wicket by DJ Willey off JT Ball when the Tigers’ total was 271 for the loss of five wickets. Then Mosaddek Hossain was cleanly bowled out by JT Ball for a duck in the next ball when the home side’s score was 271 for the loss of six wickets.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (1) was caught at the third-man by Jos Buttler off Adil Rashid when Bangladesh’s score was 274 for the loss of seven wickets.
Then Imrul Kayes was stumped out by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off Adil Rashid when the hosts’ total was 280 for the loss of eight wickets. Then Shafiul Islam (0) was run out by Adil Rashid when Bangladesh’s score was 280 for the loss of nine wickets.
Taskin Ahmed (1) was dismissed by JT Ball when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
JT Ball captured five wickets at the cost of 51 runs while Adil Rashid grabbed four wickets instead of 49 runs.
