Bangladesh logs 17 virus deaths, lowest daily count in more than 4 months

Bangladesh has registered 17 new fatalities from the novel coronavirus infection, the lowest daily count in 134 days.
The daily body count has taken the total to 5,477, while the caseload jumped to 375,870 after 1,278 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, the government said in a statement.
The Directorate General of Health Services on May 28 reported 15 fatalities, Bangladesh’s previous smallest daily rise in coronavirus deaths. Since then, the body count has stayed above 20 per day.
The number of recoveries outpaced active cases in the same period as another 1,596 patients recovered from COVID-19 through treatment at home and in hospital care. It brings the total to 289,912.
A total of 11,256 samples were tested at 109 authorised labs across the country in the last 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 11.35 percent.
