Birshreshtha Lance Nayek Nur Mohammad Sheikh’s wife Begum Fazilatunnesa has died. She was 80.
She breathed her last at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday evening, her relatives said.
Fazilatunnesa was admitted to the hospital for treatment of diabetes and other old age problems on Oct 27.
She left behind three daughters and a son.
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed sorrow over the death of Fazilatunnesa.
They extended sympathy to the grieving family in condolence messages.
Asad Rahman, a relative of Fazilatunnesa, told the media that she had been living at home in Narail. She was taken to the hospital for better treatment.
The date and time for her funeral prayers and burial were yet to be decided, Asad said.
Born in Narail on Feb 26, 1936, Nur Mohammad was a member of the then East Pakistan Rifles, which is the Border Guard Bangladesh now, when the Liberation War started.
He fought the war under the Sector 8 in Jessore and died a hero on Sept 5, 1971 during a battle with the Pakistani army at Goalhati and Chhutipur.
He has been awarded the highest insignia, Birshreshtha the Most Valiant Hero, for his heroic sacrifice for the independence of Bangladesh.– bdnews24.com
