Bangladesh keen to promote friendly ties with Guatemala

The newly appointed Bangladesh Ambassador to Guatemala with residence in New York Masud Bin Momen has said Bangladesh is keen in promoting friendly relations with Guatemala based on shared values of democracy, development and social justice.
He also said that the geographic barrier should never stand in the way of growing friendship and promoting trade relations between the two countries.
Momen, also the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, expressed this view while presenting his credentials to President of Guatemala Jimmy Morales at the Presidential Palace in Guatemala City on Friday.
Foreign Minister of Guatemala Carlos Morales was also present on the occasion. After the presentation of credentials, Momen attended the ceremonial ‘Guard of Honor’ where the national anthem of Bangladesh was played.
Momen greeted the Guatemalan President for the acceptance of his credentials and conveyed the regards of the President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to him. He appreciated achievements of Guatemala in socioeconomic sectors under his leadership.
The Guatemalan President emphasized the increase of bilateral trade. He observed that both the missions of Bangladesh and Guatemala in New York can work closer in pursuing the many common objectives as well as support each other’s candidatures for various elections.
The ambassador briefed the President on the recent economic progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Meanwhile, the ambassador called on Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Maria Dieguez on Thursday.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral issues and possible areas of cooperation between the two countries and agreed to work together in the area of peacekeeping operations and migration.
