The Bangladesh Cotton Association (BCA) and the Indian Cotton Association Limited (ICAL), in cooperation with the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI) and India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IBCCI), organized “Bangladesh-India Cotton Festival 2016” on Saturday in Dhaka.
Tofail Ahmed MP, Minister for Commerce, inaugurated the event.
Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla graced the event as the Guest of honour.
Delegates attended the daylong event from Bangladesh, India and other countries, an Indian High Commission press release said.
The event included useful sessions on cotton production and challenges; port facilities; seaportw and land port Infrastructures in Bangladesh.
In his address at the inauguration, High Commissioner Shringla stated that India is the largest supplier of cotton and cotton yarns to Bangladesh; cotton and cotton yarn/thread and cotton fabric is the single largest commodity export from India; it accounted for about 22.5 per cent of India’s total exports to Bangladesh.
Apart from the President of Indian Cotton Association Limited, heads of major Industry Associations of Bangladesh, such as FBCCI, IBCCI, BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA were also present at the inauguration.
