Members of Bangladesh Hockey team returned to Dhaka from Jakarta on Thursday night. Acting General Secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation Mohammad Yousuf received Bangladesh Hockey team at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on the same day.
Bangladesh Hockey team became runners-up in the Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. Bangladesh lost to Oman by 6-2 goals in the final. But Bangladesh have qualified for the upcoming Hockey Competition of Asian Games.
Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Singapore were in Group-B. Bangladesh beat Indonesia by 3-1 goals, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 3-1 goals, Bangladesh edged past Singapore by a solitary goal in their Group-B matches. Bangladesh stormed into the final beating Thailand by 4-1 goals in the semi-final.
After finishing the Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers campaign, Bangladesh team arrived at Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia to take part in the Hero Asia Cup Hockey.
Bangladesh, Malaysia, South Korea, Oman were in Group-B.
Bangladesh lost to South Korea by 6-1 goals, Bangladesh beat Oman by 2-1 goals, Bangladesh suffered 1-8 goals defeat to Malaysia in their Group-B matches.
Bangladesh beat Indonesia by 4-2 goals in the place-deciding match.
Later, Bangladesh finished sixth as they lost to Pakistan by eight goals to nil in the place-deciding match.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh’s latest FIH (highest governing body of world hockey) ranking is now 27, which is really an improvement for the red-and-green outfit.
