Warm-up match: Bangladesh go dawn fighting

Bangladesh tasted a narrow two-run defeat to Sri Lanka Board President XI in their warm-up match at Colombo Cricket Club Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
Sent into bat first, Sri Lanka Board President XI piled up a mammoth 354 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh were restricted to 352 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as they lost opener Imrul Kayes (0) before the tourists opened the account.
Then Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman built a remarkable partnership. They put on together 116 runs for the second wicket stand before Sarkar was caught by Dasun Shanaka off Milinda Siriwardana when Bangladesh’s total was 116 for the loss of one wicket.
Soumya hit a sparkle 47. His 43-ball innings was ornamented with five fours and two sixes.
Sabbir Rahman cracked a splendid 72. He hit 11 fours and a sixer before he was caught by Thisara Perera off Chaturanga de Silva when the team’s score was 124 for the loss of three wickets.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim and Mosaddek Hossain added together 28 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim (20) was caught by Dasun Shanka off Chaturanga de Silva when the tourists’ total was 152 for the loss of four wickets.
After dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mosaddek Hossain and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 66 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Mosaddek Hossain was caught by Lahiru Madushanka off Akila Dananjaya when the team’s total was 218 for the loss of five wickets.
Mosaddek Hossain hit a superb 53. His 50-ball innings was belted with four fours and two sixes.
Mahmudullah Riyad remained unbeaten with 71. His 68-ball knock was ornamented with four fours and a sixer.
After departure of Mosaddek, Bangladesh were under pressure as Shuvagata Hom and Sanzamul Islam were dismissed for two and five runs respectively.
Then Mashrafe Bin Mortaza arrived at the crease and changed the total scenario. Mashrafe and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 101 runs in the eighth wicket stand before Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was caught by Thisara Perera off Lahiru Madushanaka when Bangladesh just five runs away from victory.
Mashrafe hammered a windy 58. His 35-ball innings was decorated with four sixes and four fours.
Later, Mohammad Saifuddin remained unbeaten with two runs and Bangladesh needed just two runs to equal with Lanka’s total.
Akila Dananjaya captured three wickets at the cost of 61 runs, while Chaturanga de Silva bagged a pair of wickets instead of 53 runs.
Binura Fernando, Lahiru Madushanaka, Milinda Siriwardana took one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Sandum Weerakkody, Kusal Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva made 67, 64 and 52 runs respectively.
Besides, Thisara Perera, Chaturanga de Silva, Dasun Shanaka and Dilshan Munaweera added 41, 28, 26 (not out) and 24 runs respectively to the Sri Lanka Board President XI total.
Mohammad Saifuddin, Sanzamul Islam, Abul Hasan, Taskin Ahmed and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took one wicket each for 26, 27, 35, 51 and 66 runs respectively.
